I had a tough decision to make about what dinghy I wanted to take on the adventure. The traditional option would be an inflatable dinghy with a small outboard. I have never been a big fan of inflatables. They certainly have their advantages, no doubt. They pack up small, are a good value for what you get and are very versatile for getting around. I considered lots of alternatives like stand paddleboards and kayaks and really struggled with a decision.
I finally decided to get a Chesapeake Lightcraft Eastport Pram Nesting dinghy. It is a wooden, rowing kit boat that we will build ourselves. It is 7’ 9” by 4’ assembled and it nests down into a 4’9” by 4’ package. Pretty cool.
My grandfather, great uncle and Dad will be leading up the project in Greensboro. The kit just arrived last week so the initial organization has begun. It takes about 80-90 hours to complete so we will be spending most of October putting it together. Here are a few photos of the first day on the project.
