First Post!!!

In Bahamas by Daniel8 Comments

Woah!  The very first post of our Adventure Log!  Feel free to comment on any of the posts and let us know what you think.  Those of you that know me (Daniel) know that I will be taking tons of photos and Ryan has an underwater HD camera so we will have lots of good videos too!  We have been working pretty much non-stop for the past 5 days and the boat is really starting to look good.  We have a small checklist of things to finish tomorrow and then we are heading out on Thursday.  We were originally planning to leave tomorrow but the offshore forecast says that there will be gale force winds and high seas so we thought it best to wait just one more day.  As of right now we have a nice forecast for Thursday to Tuesday.  We are planning on heading out of Beaufort Inlet around noon and heading offshore most of the way.  We are going east around Frying Pan shoals off of Wilmington and staying about 30 miles or so offshore inside of the Gulf Stream the rest of the way down.  The trip should take us about six days or so.  Once we are down in the Bahamas we will be using Ryan’s phone to tether to the laptop to provide updates but we will probably not have any coverage on the way down.  So the updates should start coming fairly regularly next week.  I will try to post several photos of the boat and crew before we leave.  Julia has a SPOT GPS messenger that will provide email “We’re OK” messages to our families along the way.  There is also a Spot Tracking site that will keep track of the waypoints that we plot along the way.  I will post that link before we head out so that everyone can follow us on the offshore track and once we arrive in the Bahamas.  Please forward this to anyone who you think might be interested in following the adventure.  More posts to come soon!  Thanks for reading!  -Daniel

  1. Oh yeah dawg! I am ready. Tomorrow is coming early. Or updated current offshore forecast is great sailing until sunday, then gale force winds. At which point our boat will most likely be seeking shelter in a safe harbor. Wish us luck and so much love going out to all my friends and family!

  2. You guys and gal should cut off all that electronic stuff, throw your GPS overboard, and take your readings from the stars. Or better, tell your folks that’s what you’re doing. It will be great. Good luck with the wind and the waves and enjoy everything that is to be enjoyed about each day!

  3. Daniel, Pick me up a couple of lobster’s on the way back. I have plenty of hot butter and cold beer! Whit & Pat Morgan

  4. I wish you all great adventures, but only the good kind. I admire you for following your dreams and going for it. God bless you and keep you safe.

  5. What a great idea!!! Wishing you all a safe yet exciting journey!!
