Description
Dad and I have been kayaking and camping all over eastern North Carolina. One of our favorite spots in Shackleford Island near Cape Lookout and Beaufort, NC. It is part of the National Seashore and has no development on it. There are wild horses that roam all over the island. We would kayak up to the backside and hike across the island to camp near the beach. We were able to set up in a nice grassy pasture yet walk 100 yards and be right on the beach. No sandy sleeping bags but we were able to fall asleep to the sound of the surf every night. Each evening the horses would start moving across the island and walk right through our campsite. Amazing island!
